Abstract

The main factor in understanding radicalism is textual understanding of religious teachings. An approach in understanding religion that is text-oriented only, interpreting the text of the Qur'an and hadith is only based on the text literally and scripturally. Many efforts have been made to reconstruct textual thinking, especially with contextual approaches. An approach in understanding religious texts by taking into account the socio-cultural context, the situation of conditions, time and place is revealed. But this effort is less acceptable among textualist schools, because it is contrary to their principles. According to them, the text argument cannot be broken down by context, because both are different and opposite principles. One who can deconstruct their textual arguments is the rules of the text as well, including the rules of al-musytarak al-lafzhi, which since the early generations the mufassir had laid the basic foundation. What is this al-musytarak al-lafzhi rule like? How can this rule deconstruct this textual understanding? To answer these questions a study was conducted that used descriptive qualitative methods by describing data derived from literature and then drawing general conclusions. The results of this study prove that al-musytarak al-lafzhi's rules can comprehensively analyze the meaning of religious texts. That is by understanding the meaning of lafazh from the root of the language holistically, one word has a double meaning, repeated in many positions that have different meanings, describing a text meaning comprehensively and integrally. One understanding that experiences a lot of distortion is to interpret the terms jihad and qital. Textualists identify the meaning of jihad with armed war and mere physical violence. Collecting verses that mean qital jihad and isolating them as if jihad only means qital and war against the enemy. al-musytarak al-lafzhi analyzed the word jihad rootedly which had broad meaning. The word jihad in the Qur'an has at least three sides of meaning; jihad qouli is the meaning of jihad in the form of speech and invitation to da'wah, qitali jihad which is jihad which has dimensions of physical confrontation of war against the enemy, and jihad ‘amali, namely the dimension of jihad which promotes good deeds and concrete actions as solutions to various problems of the people. This study is part of an effort to reconstruct textualist thinking using the instruments they use
