The dasyclad algae Vermiporella, Rhabdoporella, and Cyclocrinites, and associated colonial corals dominate shallow, quiet water, open shelf communities of Upper Ordovician carbonate shelf sediments of the eastern Great Basin. Algal communities are found in clean dolomites, indicating little influx of terrigenous sediment. Commonly, the algae have been replaced by silica. - Authors
