Abstract

Considers advances made in the classical Cauchy-Poisson problem of surface water waves generated by locally impulsive disturbances. Presents a linear solution of a transient wave by a fast Fourier transform (FFT) technique, and also resolves the inverse problem. The solution for a nonlinear impulsive wave in shallow water uses a split step Fourier algorithm. (C.J.U.)
