The participants were 322 adolescents aged between 13 and 17 years old. Two instruments were used to collect data -Parenting Styles Inventory and a questionnaire developed by the authors. Non-parametrical statistics (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis) were used to analyze the obtained data. Results have shown that: (a) child gender has significant influence on the score of parenting styles; (b) firstborn girls present significantly higher risk of suffering negative parental practices and, (c) the perceived parental favoritism is significantly modulated by both gender and birth order.
