Abstract
African swine fever virus (ASFV) is an intracytoplasmically replicating DNA virus that is responsible for African swine fever (ASF). Maintained in warthogs and bushpigs and transmitted by soft ticks of the Ornithodoros genus, ASFV infection in domestic pigs leads to high fever, loss of appetite, hemorrhages in the skin and internal organs, and death (with mortality rates as high as 100%) [1].
