Abstract

Stabilizing additives protect organic coatings against various forms of degradation and destruction of service properties under the action of sunlight, atmosphere oxygen, moisture, elevated and alternated temperatures, micro-organisms and other service conditions. In the narrow sense, UV-absorbers, UV-stabilizers and anti-oxidants, preventing light, oxygen and heat degradation of binder resins, are described as 'stabilizing additives'. In a broader sense, however, a number of other groups of coating additives are in fact coating stabilizers, such as bio-preservatives, corrosion inhibitors, adhesion promoters, some surface conditioners etc.
