This chapter discusses the economic impact of rural tourism in the province of Nova Scotia, located in eastern Canada. Consisting of 55, 283 km2, with no point more than 67 km from the Atlantic Ocean, Nova Scotia realizes an economic benefit from tourism of approximately $2 billion annually. Nearly evenly divided between rural and urban tourism forms, rural areas of the province feature most of the historic, culture and heritage assets that attract tourists to the province and specifically to rural areas. This case study discusses some of the problems facing tourism in rural parts of the province and solutions currently under consideration.
