Abstract

The paper presents a new analytical model of cellular network servicing multicast connections. In the model it was assumed that threshold mechanism was introduced in the Iub interface of the UMTS network. The proposed model is based on the model of the full-availability group servicing a mixture of different multirate classes. The presented analytical model is an approximate model and hence the results of the analytical calculations were compared with the results of the simulations, which confirmed the essential accuracy of the model. The calculation method presented in the paper can be further used for the analysis, optimization and dimensioning of UMTS networks or any other multiservice cellular networks such us the forthcoming LTE-Advanced standard. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
