More than 7,000 refereed, academic and scholarly journals publish in languages other than English. Those languages and national contexts often have their own scientific writing conventions. When those conventions are transported into English, they are sometimes considered errors. International variations may include the overall style of writing and the elements found in different sections of research papers. The dominance of English in scientific writing seems to be producing an increasing alignment with English, even in countries that have their own history of publishing scientific research.
