Abstract

Macroalgae, or seaweeds, are commercially important foods and sources of other products. The main seaweed producers are mostly in Asia, but significant production exists in central and south America. Biotechnology is expected to play an increasingly significant role in commercial production of macroalgae. This chapter provides an overview of biotechnology-based production of seaweeds.
