This study found that, unlike what happens with reading speed, Braille readers and ink print readers present similar levels of text comprehension. An evolutionary pattern is noted by which reading comprehension evolves slowly in the early years of education, but takes off with Baccalaureate grade, whether the access to the information be by Braille or by a text presented using speech synthesis systems. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
