Abstract

A large number of strong-motion recordings were obtained in Wenchuan aftershocks by means of mobile observation. In the task of cataloging these recordings, some abnormal phenomena were revealed, such as highfrequency noise, locked spring, multiple shocks, and trail loss, which are the errors of strong-motion recording. These abnormal recordings were called anomalous strong-motion recordings in this paper. Applying frequency-spectra analysis, the reasons why these errors produce were presented, and the applicable research field and influence extent were discussed. This work can give the technical reference and assistance for utilizing these recording properly. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
