Abstract

Survey for 12 months between Feb. 1944- Feb 1945. Mississippi Sound averages 80 miles long and 10 miles wide, shallow. Horn Island 13 miles long, 1/4-3/4 miles wide, some dunes attain height of 30-40 ft. Considered a sand island. Islands moving northwestward. Island size estimated at 3700 acres in 1956. Used for biological warfare research by the military. For bees, records Perdita swenki, Bombus americanorum (=pennsylvanicus), Psithyrus variabilis, and Agapostemon virescens. Has Balduina angustifolia in old genus, Actinospermum as a "thistle"!
