Abstract

We propose a tentative parallel between computational features and cellular operations in order to explore the possibility that the cell itself is intrinsically and not metaphorically a symbol-processing, computing entity. Central to this possible identification is the notion of virtuality, as understood in computational theory. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
