Vascular tumors can be challenging to diagnose and represent a number of clinicopathologically distinct entities for which precise histopathological diagnosis is often essential in determining effective therapeutic approach. Although they can resemble one another, their classification is based not only on their divergent biological behavior but also on their pathogenesis and recently described histopathological findings (Hoeger and Colmenero, Br J Dermatol 2013 (in press)). A recent proposal for revised classification of vascular anomalies has been promoted by the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) based on clinical features and current histopathological findings.
