Abstract

Contrasts different forms of polyandry from the standpoint of frequency of expression, use of space, mode of mate monopolization and sex roles. Theories on the evolution of polyandry are reviewed, and the life history of a species that exemplifies the transition from monogamy to polyandry, spotted sandpiper Actitis macularia, is presented in detail. -from Author
