Abstract

In this chapter Prof Marco Trabucchi, president of the Italian Psychogeriatric Association, and prof Stephanie Saenger, president of the COTEC underline the tight relationship between geriatrics and occupational therapy. The progressive ageing of the population require innovative approaches to optimize the care of older persons. Geriatricians and occupational therapists share a common pathway, in multidisciplinary teams, in the management of older persons and especially in the context of dementia. They both focus on a multidimensional assessment to establish a tailored treatment to improve the autonomy of the person in different settings of care. In this book there is a strong drive to improve the connection between different specialists and to reduce the discontinuity of care for frail older adults via the creation of international networks.
