Abstract

In 5G cellular systems, MIMO plays an important role in the radio access technology and access network topology. MIMO uses an additional space dimension beyond time and frequency to enhance the service quality by providing diversity gain, data rate (capacity) by multiplexing gain and coverage and outage with array gain. In this paper, different multi-antenna system configurations under the impact of spatial antenna correlation are compared using a capacity performance metric. The results indicate that the MIMO water-filling algorithm (WFA) method under uncorrelated scenario gives better capacity compared to a fully correlated scenario. The results also indicate that by increasing the number of transmitting and receiving antennas, there is an improvement in the MIMO capacities without boosting the transmitted power and additional spectral requirement.
