Abstract

The Dunnage Zone is interepreted as the remains of the Early Paleozoic Iapetus Ocean, and the Gander Zone as a continentally-derived sedimentary wedge at its eastern margin. Part of the Dunnage Zone, the Exploits Subzone, is considered to be allochthonous on the Gander Zone. Sedimentary provenance and geochronological studies in central Newfoundland have been undertaken to determine the history of interaction between the Exploits Subzone and the Gander Zone. -from Authors
