Abstract

The paper describes a method of the determination of internal forces in a structural system taking into account the actual deformations of the structure, provided that the deformations are small. The method developed is general, but will be limited to building structures of structural steel. However, it is applicable to all elastic materials and to materials whose inelasticity is a straightforward function of load or time. A system of notation has been developed as part of the method and is summarized. The method discussed was developed for pin jointed structures without bending moments. It gives exact results within the limitations of small deflection theory.
