The establishment of solar thermal utilization information system is still in the exploratory phase and the data of solar engineering was not taken sufficient use. In this paper, geographic information system was integrated into management information system by Visual C++. The solar thermal utilization information system was implemented with the software architecture of data layer/ business logic layer/ presentation layer. The graphical user interface of the information system was based on MapObject component technology of GIS. Data storage and management were realized through the ADO accessing way of SQL Server database. The fusion of spatial data and attribute data was completed by ArcSDE. And aided decision models were calculated by MATLAB. This method to design the solar thermal utilization information system is effective to apply computer technology, database technology, GIS technology and scientific theories of solar thermal utilization into solar energy engineering, and it has certain practical significance. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
