Abstract

In this paper, a joint cognitive access and power control algorithm is considered in the macrocell and femtocell networks. The cross-tier interference severely affects the performance of both the macrocell users and the femtocell users. To alleviate the interference, usually the femtocell base station which causes terrible interference to cellular users will be restricted in closed access mode or the cellular users will be regarded as authorized users in open access mode. In contrast, we take the macrocell cellular users nearby the boundary of the femtocell base station as cognitive users to get access to the nearest femtocell base station. Since the femtocell base station causes maximal interference to the cellular users and deters them from communicating with the macrocell base station (MBS). Other contributions of this paper include proposing a simple but effective method to improve the average throughput of the networks for the adaptive system, as well as establishing a distributed power control game model for the all users. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.
