Abstract

A total of 27 dogs 1.5-12 months old suffered from diarrhea seemingly induced by infestation with flagellate protozoa of the genus Giardia. Experimental infestation was successful with fecal samples containing these protozoa. Diarrhea started 2-3 days after inoculation. In the feces vegetative forms and cysts appeared 5-7 and 10-12 days, respectively, after inoculation. Metronidasol was destructive to those protozoa without side effects.
