Abstract

Objectives: This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows:. Primary objective To quantify the additional reduction in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) achieved by drugs inhibiting the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) as second-line treatment for hypertensive patients. Secondary objectives To determine the effects of second-line RAS inhibitors on variability of blood pressure To determine the effects of second-line RAS inhibitors on pulse pressure To quantify the effects of second-line RAS inhibitors on heart rate To quantify the effects of second-line RAS inhibitors on withdrawal due to adverse effects.
