This paper describes the experiences of a small team of domain experts in reengineering the configuration control software for the 5ESS(R) switch. The project consisted of three main phases: discovery, design, and deployment. During the discovery phase the team conducted a domain analysis of configuration control software. In the design phase the team created domain-specific languages and supporting tools. The deployment phase consisted of trial use and modification in response to feedback from users. Lessons learned during each of these phases are summarized.
