Abstract

We have chosen to give different and complementary definitions for the concepts of ethics and morals, for the sake of convention. The ethical question concerns “how to live” whereas the moral question regards “how we should act”. Thus, ethics concerns what makes up a “good life” while morals relates to one’s duties. That being said, here we analyse some ethical and moral characteristics of the contemporary world, in the light of a psychological framework, and reached the following two conclusions, among others: 1) that which we call “culture of vanity” weakens the construction of ethical personalities, a necessary condition for moral action; 2) that which we call “culture of boredom” jeopardizes the genuine pursuit of a “good life”; therefore, it also compromises the construction of ethical personalities
