Background

Abstract

This chapter frames the historical and social context of Malaysia, before providing an overview of the HIV epidemic globally, in the Muslim world, in the Asia Pacific region, as well as within Malaysia, including the high risk groups vulnerable to HIV. The existing research regarding knowledge and perception of HIV in Malaysia is described, as well the country’s policies of harm reduction and Islamic engagement.
