Abstract

The most common classification of networks for data, voice, and graphic communications are local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and metropolitan area networks (MAN). Due to the size of most facilities (campus, research, production, etc.), LANs seem to prevail in facilities automation applications. LANs became very popular for two main reasons.
