In recent years a number of complementary techniques have been developed to study the correlation between crystalline structure and physical behaviour of inclusion compounds. In this article, case studies are presented to illustrate methods useful for the study of selectivity by host compounds towards particular guests and of the kinetics governing the formation and decomposition of inclusion compounds. © 2008 Springer Netherlands.
