Abstract

Biosensors or point-of-care (POC) devices are gaining wide attention in acquiring clinical outcome in a short time. This chapter discusses POC devices that are available in the market and are under research consideration for renal disease diagnosis. The importance of various POC devices in renal disease diagnosis and renal biomarker pronounced for acute and chronic kidney disease has been discussed. Further, the clinically acceptable renal biomarkers used in the development of POC devices for renal disease is explored. Various biochemical principles used for the development of POC devices are elaborated and among which amperometric and chemiluminescence based POC devices for renal disease diagnosis have gained wide attention recently.
