The incidence of diabetes has increased dramatically in recent years and this trend is expected to continue. It is essential for the therapy of diabetes that patients keep a diary. However, diary keeping is often incomplete and digitally supported diaries are poorly accepted by older patients. With the help of focus groups, we collected requirements for a digital diabetes diary and implemented them using a LiveScribe pen. This digitally augmented pen allows you to keep the diary traditionally on paper and still offer digital support. By digitizing an already known process, our solution achieves a high level of acceptance even among older people. The evaluation was carried out with the help of the TAM model and was used to quantify the effects of user factors. Typical predictors of acceptance do not work in our model, which we see as an indication that our pen is not perceived as technology in the classical sense.
