Abstract

This article discusses a topic of home automation, also called domotics, and provides an overview of state-of-the-art in communication protocols for this application area. Comparitive analysis for different networking standards and communication media is provided. Special focus is given to wireless technologies and advantages provided by ZigBee wireless networking standard for home automation solutions. ZigBee protocol implementation details are covered together with examples of possible applications in conjunction with Linux Open Source software platform. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
