Abstract

This paper presents methods for the rapid selection of members in the design of beam-columns. The members may be subject to bending about either or both axes, with or without direct load. Method PMx converts the direct load and/or the moment about the Y-Y axis into equivalent moments about the X-X axis, reducing the problem to the selection of a beam with bending about the X-X axis only. Method MP converts the moment about the X-X axis and/or the moment about the Y-Y axis into direct loads, reducing the problem to the selection of a column without bending.
