Variations in the threshold of a 500-cps tone masked by random noise are studied as a function of simultaneous shifts in the interaural amplitude ratio and interaural time delay of the tone. The experimental results are found to coincide with the results of computations based on the equalization and cancellation model and are used to define a time-intensity trade for binaural unmasking.
