Abstract

Over the past three decades, an expansive body of empirical research has amassed documenting the impact that Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) can have on the lives of children with autism and their families. Using the principles of applied behavior analysis, EIBI programs can produce large gains in language, cognitive, and social behavior resulting in remediation of the core deficits in children with autism. The goal of this chapter will be to review the evidence supporting EIBI, to identify its critical elements, and to describe the implementation of these elements in the EIBI literature.
