Assessing for the Co-morbidities and Factors That May Affect a Patient’s Risk and Response to COVID-19

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every country in the world and every aspect of how we live. A number of comorbidities and characteristics have been associated with increased risk of mortality for those that contract COVID-19. Naturopathic doctors have an essential role to play in supporting public health’s policies around prevention and in assessing for and addressing factors that may contribute to increased risk. It is also critical that the naturopathic profession understand the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 and the potential long-term impacts on health for those that have had the virus. This article reviews the current research around COVID-19 and highlights the laboratory testing that may be indicating when assessing for risk and the symptoms that patients may present with post-COVID that may need to be addressed.
