In this paper, a novel bionic model and its performance in pattern recognition is presented and discussed. The model based on the main features of the olfactory system is composed from a bulb model and a 3-layered cortical model. The olfactory bulb and cortex models are connected with distributed delays by feed-forward and feedback fibers. Its accuracy and efficiency are demonstrated in this report on an application to human face recognition. The model is compared with other pattern recognition algorithms. © 2013 Springer.
