Abstract

Providing care for transgender patients is most effective when approached from an interdisciplinary perspective. This has been demonstrated to improve outcomes and is essential as the interventions sought by many transgender people to relieve gender dysphoria by necessity cross disciplines. Because many of the physicians and care teams providing treatment for transgender patients may have only basic training in the behavioral sciences, it is essential to take an interdisciplinary approach to the overall management of these patients. In this chapter, we will explore basic principles of care for the transgender patients as well as the roles of the individual disciplines in their care.
