A theory is developed for the processes of the creation of light induced defects, photo-darkening and volume expansion during illumination of chalcogenide glasses. Considering a linear chain of the sample, it is shown that the charge carrier-lattice interaction plays a common role in all the three processes. Results are compared with the experimental results and other theories. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2007.
