Abstract

This is an application of the method of approximations initated by Boussinesq to the disturbances of the interface points for waves of permanent form and the internal solitary wave. The system considered is a layer of liquid on another layer of greater density, the liquids of the layers being initially at rest and of constant total depth. The form of the wave is established. The dependence of wave velocity on wave height, on density differences and on layer thickness is determined.
