Abstract

This article has as its main goal to deal with an interpretative dilemma in the field of class analysis and, more broadly, in the social sciences as a whole: is class analysis useful to the investigation of the ordinary patterns of sociability? Is it possible to connect class and status? Initially, the article proceeds to a brief discussion of the sociological literature aiming at describing the broad contours of such debates. Then, it produces an empirical study in order to illuminate aspects of the relationship between classes and social practices. The main hypothesis is that class effectively shapes the patterns of usual sociability and the formation of lifestyles.
