Abstract

A movie, by its nature, is a combination of two stimuli simultaneously given: video and sound. Although multimodal perception phenomenon is widely known [1, 2, 3], in the area of subjective quality evaluation of compressed video there is still a lack of a coherent opinion on the mutual influence of picture and sound on the final impression of the observer. The aim of this study was to perform an experiment to check the influence of sound on perceptual evaluation of compressed video. Results of the experiment show that both the presence and the type of sound simultaneously given changes the video quality perception.
