Delayed awakening from anesthesia may be a difficult diagnostic problem, particularly in a previously healthy patient undergoing non-life-threatening surgery. The following case report of a girl who was given chlorpromazine by the mother postoperatively, should illustrate how this problem may be both a public health and medical-legal issue which affects all personnel who participate in patient care.
