Abstract

America and IUCN have set up reintroduction advisory groups. Clear goals, clear outcomes. Is there a need? - check alternatives. Available stock? No jeopardy to wild population - disease, source for translocation. Cause of decline removed. Sufficent protected habitat, or habitat restoration. Unsaturated habitat. No negative impact to local human pop. Community support exists. Govt orgs and nongovt orgs supportive/involved - need well developed recovery team. Conformity with laws/regulations. Reintroduction technology/techniques known or in development. Knowledge of species biology. Sufficient resources for WHOLE project. Good checklist for yes or no to reintroduction
