Abstract

In this paper we present a graphical user interface (GUI) for home automation which includes an avatar interface as a help-system. The work aims at analysing the user-home automation system interaction to model the user control over the system and the level of assistance required. We have developed high-fi prototypes to test the avatar-based help system with incremental functionalities embedded in the home GUI. Preliminary results suggest the acceptance of the system and its use in share control systems in smart and assistive home scenarios. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
