Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 is focused on the integration of production processes with information, electronic, robotics and sensory technologies, to generate innovation, producing a disruptive impact on industry, the economy and society. In accordance with this global environment, the purpose of this work is to analyze the challenges faced by universities in the context of Industry 4.0, as organizations that train highly trained human resources to perform in this work environment. The research is documentary, with a bibliographic, non-experimental, transectional and analytical design. It was found that technologies, such as the internet of things, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, among others, facilitate the offer of services and the elaboration of intelligent products, with machines that modernize, automate and interconnect the processes of production, making them innovative, efficient and flexible. According to this reality, universities must be at the forefront, training competent professionals in new technologies. For this reason, they need to develop governance and academic actions to obtain, mainly, financial viability for greater investment in technologies and research, strengthening of inter-institutional academic networks, updating curricula, development of soft skills, new methodologies that generate creativity and innovation, postgraduate courses novelties and continuous training.
