Abstract

One goal of researchers in the area of programming language translation techniques has been, and will for some time be, to develop a language-description language such that language descriptions can be mapped straight-forwardly into compilers. The lessons of structured programming would lead us to expect each compiler to be a collection of modules, and correspondingly, each language description to be modular.
