Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) includes all acute leukemias characterized by cells of other than lymphoid origin. AML subgroups with special clinical features have been defined by morphologic, immunologic, and cytogenetic techniques as discussed in Chaps. 16, 17, and 18, respectively. All subtypes other than acute progranulocytic leukemia (APL) will be discussed in this chapter and APL is discussed in Chap.23.
