Abstract

Blind people can recognize three-dimensional shapes through tactile sensations. Therefore, effective models are useful in tactile learning. In our special thematic session, we will focus upon three-dimensional tactile models which developed by using the most advanced technologies. Another focus of the special thematic session is devoted to the recognition mechanisms of 3D objects based on tactile information. This includes the problem to recognize the shapes of 3D objects from 2D tactile plane figures. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
