Abstract

The initiation, maintenance and termination of pregnancy are related to placental functions, as the human placenta contributes to maintaining equilibrium between the fetus and the mother and regulating the bodily functions of both organisms in a complementary way. This is made possible through the secretion of several growth factors, neurohormones and cytokines by human placenta [1-3]. © Springer 2008.
